Echo was our second Collie. She was purchased while Michael was out to sea. We were planning to buy a second Collie as a companion for Lance. Michael said to wait until he returned from his deployment. Cindi found a six month old collie for a very good price. Her owners didn't want to keep her any more. So Cindi bought her.
At first, Echo decided to eat the entire house. She chewed on the house siding, plants and furniture. She chewed up our couch several times. We got it fixed once and she promptly chewed it up again.
Echo did a great job as a companion for Lance. She was very upset and lonely when Lance finally died. So we ended up getting our first Smoothie, Carson, to keep Echo company. This did the trick. She pulled out of her funk and was a happy girl again.
She loved to dig under the bushes in our yard and lie in the cool dirt. She used to do this right up against the house.
We grew very close to Echo and took her everywhere with us. She was even the Costo Dog Bed poster dog for one year!
As she got older, she started to have a hard time moving around. We think she had Hip Displasia and Arthritis. We tried several medications and finally settled on Deramax. We were aware of the possible side effects but her pain was so bad that nothing else helped.
Finally, at the end, she fell apart all at once. She was fine one day and unable to move the next. This was possibly due to the Deramax or maybe just due to old age. She was 13 years old.
We visited Costco on one of our normal trips and found the wonderful photo of our Echo has been placed back on the dog beds. A wonderful reminder of a wonderful dog.
