Cindi was working for an animal rescue organization called “Petsavers”. We received a call from the woman claiming that she had two dogs she could no longer keep. Michael and Kayla went to pick up the dogs. When they got to the woman's ranch, they discovered that most of the dogs had mange.

	Jenny was the worst of the dogs. Jenny and one other were given to Michael and Kayla. Later, it was discovered that the woman had been banned by the AKC. She was not supposed to be breeding dogs but was doing it anyway. Most of her dogs were sick and had mange. Reputable breeders wanted nothing to do with her.

	We quickly found a home for Jenny's sister but Jenny was so badly off that we needed to take drastic action. Cindi took her to the vet who administered Ivermectin. This is how we found out about Collie sensitivity to Ivermectin. Apparently our vet (at that time) knew about this problem but had dealt so rarely with Collies he forgot about it until Jenny was taken ill by the drug. Cindi took her home from the vet and Jenny stood for hours in the corner drooling.

	After that, Jenny improved greatly. We shaved her coat several times to reduce the build up of scabs. We found Jenny to be one of the most intelligent Collies we ever owned. She was sweet natured and learned everything extremely quickly. Her coat started to grow back in and she began to look like a proper Collie.

	However, her immune system was compromised. One day she was doing great, the next her body was riddled by massive infection. We had her put down to prevent suffering. Cindi was very upset by this, not only because of all the effort we put into nursing Jenny back to health but because she really loved this dog.
