Texas A&M University has had a Rough Collie named Reveille as a mascot for it's football team since 1966. As of 2008, there have been eight Reveille's.

Colleen was the name of a female Rough Collie in the animated series Road Rovers from 1996

Martin Riggs from Lethal Weapon (played by Mel Gibson) has a Collie named Sam that has appeared in all of the Lethal Weapon movies.

  • 1954 - The first dog honored was Tang, a Collie that pushed two children out of the way of an automobile
  • 1957 – Blaze, a white faced collie saved a young girl from an enraged sow that was mauling her
  • 1961 – Duke saved a girl from burning to death when her skirt caught fire from a back-yard trash fire
  • 1964 – Buddie herded goats from a burning barn
  • 1966 – Hero saved a two-year old from being trampled by a horse
  • 1989 – Buddy alerted a disabled grandmother to a house fire
Collies have been used as sentry, messenger and ambulance dogs for the military around the world since 1904.

Blaze the Wonder Collie was a three part comic published from 1949 to 1950

The color of Lassie as described in Eric Knight’s original book, Lassie Come Home, was tri-color, not sable. It is in paragraph 5 of the first chapter. “they all agreed that if a finer dog than Sam Carraclough’s tricolor collie had ever been bred in Greenall Bridge, then it must have been long before they were born.”
